America’s largest visual arts fair is kicking off this weekend in Miami, bringing in over 200 of the world’s leading modern and contemporary art galleries, displaying the work of over 4000 artists. The 16th Edition of the Art Basel show in Miami Beach is bringing top notch live entertainment, music, and arts, to thousands of art fans, who travel from all around the world to witness this annual event. Last year over 77,000 people attended the Art Basel to see beautiful art, watch breath-taking performances, and attend some of the hottest parties in the country.
This year, artists like Baz Luhrman, Tom Wesselmann, Yves Klein, and Tara Mobayen are under the spotlight for their fresh and innovative art. Tara Mobayen, otherwise known by her stage name, Miss Tara, is a dance music producer and DJ. At this week’s Art Basel in Miami, Miss Tara’s art is on display at a host of private events.
The art fair brings about some of the most remarkable art in the world from countries across the globe. New York’s Paula Cooper Gallery recently sold a blockbuster piece by conceptual artist, Sol Lewitt, to a private museum for over a $1-million. Sol will be at the Miami design displaying some of his latest work.
Both Rodrigo Torres and Kevin Beasley will also be displaying some of their latest sculpture work at the Miami Beach Art Basel. Gagosian and Jeffrey Deitch have joined forces to put on a show this year at the Art Basel Miami Beach, called ‘Abstract / Non Abstract’ and it’s a must see.

Alcija Kwade’s “Revolution” is the centerpiece at one of the new open spaces at Art Basel Miami, in the Miami Beach Convention Center. There is a diverse range of parties and galleries this year with something to suit everyone’s tastes. Some of the parties Art Basel attendees shouldn’t miss this week include the $eed Festival, Art Basel at the Foxhole, and the Tory Lanez Art Basel Bash to end out the festivities. The $eed Festival is a great way for Art Basel enthusiasts to kick off their Saturday morning. From 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. the festival will feature live music, live mural paintings, and interactive experiences.

Event organizer, Weldy Altidor said there will be a mix of everything at this event, from DJ’s spinning house music to live RnB performances. An art exhibit called “Past and Present” that features the work of over 40 artists will be on display during the festival. The exhibit is in a mix of mediums that mostly include fine art and sculptures. One of the musicians from the event, Zhea Queen, said, “If you enjoy good vibes, good energy, and good people, you should definitely come out.” The event runs all day long on both December 8th and 9th, at the Black Canvas Project, located on 46 NW 36th Street.
After visiting the $eed Festival, during the day, Art Basel patrons should consider hitting up the Foxhole during the night, to catch legendary hip-hop DJ’s throw down some mind-blowing sets. “The Originals” a group of hip-hop DJ’s from New York, will be headlining the event. Event organizer, Sofia Rodriguez, said, “If you are into hip hop and don’t want to be in the normal Art Basel scene where everyone else is, then Foxhole is definitely the place to be.” The bar offers more of a laidback setting while keeping the party going. Sofia refers to it as a “speakeasy” type bar, providing intimate vibes, that make it feel exclusive.
She said, “Foxhole speaks for itself and the fact that the Originals from New York are going to be here in person and performing, not just hosting the night, says a lot.” On the following day, Art Basel Attendees can’t miss Tory Lanez Art Basel Bash at SHOTS, to close out the festivities for the weekend. From 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., live music and artistic performances will take over the interactive shots bar.
Event organizer, Shayla Garcia says, “We have some amazing live artists that will be doing pieces on the walls and we are going to close out the Art Basel with Que Heffe and our special guest Tory Lanez.” Miryam Lumpini, will also be attending the bash for a live art performance. She is famous for her fine art and is an incredibly sought after tattoo artist in Los Angeles.

For the Art Basel Bash, SHOTS aims to combine the vibrancy of the art world with their fun-spirited party scene. “SHOTS has an environment that no one else has in Miami and we just look forward to pushing our brand of partying into the art world and watching some awesome performances,” said Shayla. She encourages everyone to come out, adding that, “Shots Bar is a great destination of the Miami turn up.”
The Art Basel in Miami will continue until December 10th. During the art fair, be sure to check out some of the cities fantastically curated events. For more information about the Art Basel visit: https://www.artbasel.com/miami-beach.
