Something Fresh, Something New.
Well it’s not heavy intense riddimy-dub-wobblestep, but after doing a little digging on Los Angeles based producer ZHU, I realized why there’s so much hype behind the “Faceless” producer who was nominated for a Grammy in 2014 for his incredible track Faded.
It’s not like I haven’t heard the steady paced, beautifully written piece before, I’m sure you have heard it countless times at every rave festival you’ve ever gone to since its release. There’s a reason why everyone (I’m using this word loosely), made their own Faded remix.
But what I like about the project that is ZHU is it’s uniqueness. It’s special and it’s truly artistic. Nowadays everyone chases the fame, nothing wrong with that. But there’s definitely an obvious passion behind the music that the Bay-Area native produces. He even sings too. Never in a million years would I have guessed that he provided the vocals for Faded. But thanks to a really interesting interview provided by Dancing Astronaut, we’ve found out the truth.
“And all I am is just a mirror and I reflect what they see.”
Zhu has also premiered multiple tracks on different radio show like Beats One NYC, BBC Radio 1, and our favorite, his collaborative release with Jamaican vocalist Keznamdi on the ZJ Liquid Jamaica radio show. He even has tracks with legends like Skrillex, Aluna George, and Bone Thugs & Harmony. Are you by any chance a member of Greek Life? Fun fact, Our DJ of the Day is actually a brother of Tau Kappa Epsilon at USC (California). One thing is for sure. ZHU is going places.
Catch him perform a Live Hour Long Set at Shaky Beats Music Festival tonight! 8:30 at the Piedmont stage. Don’t be late!
