I haven’t felt this nostalgic about HipHop music in quite a while now, that is until today when a fresh, new, head bobbin’ tune made its way to my car stereo and took me by surprise. A few years ago my buddyJules put me up at his apartment for nearly two weeks while I waited to move in to my new spot. Back then he was talking about putting out music some day – he loved to rap. He would freestyle for our friends every now and then, but I never expected his writtens to give off the mysterious, 2011 Odd Future vibes that we all used to love and cherish.
As the dark piano keys cleanly strike your wars for the first time, saint judah announces “N A O M I A I M E hats how its pronounced Naomi Amy, so Don’t ask me” I get an immediate chill that I’m about to get hit harder than I did when I first heard Earl Sweatshirt’s music over seven years ago. Judah spits steady, crafty verses about his life journey, loneliness, growth as an artist, and other interesting subjects. This is one of those SoundCloud gems that makes you sit and wonder why it doesn’t have a million plays.
“When you lost so long you just want to win, When your prayers don’t answer you just want to sin” echoes Judah before the second verse kicks in harder than the first.”My only nemesis is my closet that’s full of skeletons, om a ghost in the shell, god in the flesh, I done mediated for months I done partied with death, I done pushed Honda accords and scraped off in the Lex, I’m just trynna right my wrongs, so please pardon my left.” BARS. Big ups to orondé for the beautiful production work. If you like what you heard folks, you’re in good shape. This cat isn’t going anywhere. Be on the lookout for more eclectic sounds from the Queen City up and comer saint judah.
