Still Tippin’ [A Tribute to T. Farris]

This little story goes out to my brother T. Farris. You mean more to me than you can imagine my guy – thank you for everything you do for me and our friends! This morning I was feeling a little sluggish, I was questioning this reality that I was living in. This reality where it was 7 in the morning and my eyes were open, how could this be possible? Ever since I moved back to Jamestown, I’ve been trying to get a little more rest than I was when I was living in Charlotte. But on this special day, I had to work extra early, so naturally I turned on some Shade 45 to see what kind of Hip-Hop they were playing at this early hour.

All of the sudden, the smooth and eloquent sounds of the infamous xylophone and violin that were used to make Mike Jones‘ anthem, “Still Tippin.” I’ve always really enjoyed this song, ever since the day I first discovered it. But on this new listen in November of 2019, I managed to catch a certain line that made me stop in my tracks (in my head of course, I kept my foot on the gas). At the near end of the song, collaborator Paul Wall says “I got the internet goin’ nuts but T. Farris got my back so I got my nuts. It PAUL wall Baby what Yall know about me?” I had to think about this for a second before I truly understood what PW was trying to say. It seems that the Houston native also has a friend named T. Farris who’s out here in the streets keeping him safe. Much love to all the Tony, Timmy, Taylor, and most importantly Tyler Farris-es out here keeping their homies in check.
