Do you know what it’s like to move to a new city and suddenly start meeting a whole new array of people that you mesh and click with unlike anyone you’ve ever met before? I didn’t know that there was a world of so many like minded people until I packed my bags, moved to Charlotte, and started integrating myself in the local Dubstep and EDM community. Over the course of my six years in the queen city, I’ve met countless incredible souls that have impacted my life in more ways than anyone can imagine, but one particular soul will always stick out of the bunch. If you know me, then you know I’m a big fan and supporter flifnthe Queen City legend, Jordan Castle. I’ll never forget the day Jordan picked up his DAW and started working on ways to perfect a craft that resonated with his heart the way Four Lokos resonate with his liver – its been very nice to see my brother come up the way that he has. He’s surely earned my support! Without further ado, I now present you the ultimate Jordan Castle interview.
You might be one of the craziest people I know, and that’s one of the things I love about you. Who the fuck is Jordan Castle?
Yeah, I do keep getting myself in trouble… But seriously, I’m honestly just a huge nerd who’s always stuck at work! Whenever I’m not there, I’m at home cooking up some new ones for myself or my new duo CSKTS or playing video games. It’s nice having that kind of daily lifestyle though because I can really wild out and have fun at shows!
So a while back you released a tune called LOKO. Can you tell us what inspired you to write this tune? What was going down at the time?
I love that you’re asking me this question because you knows what’s up! SO, a couple of years ago I was going through it with an ex girlfriend. She was being very adamant about getting me kicked out of school which obvious lead me to a dark place. I would spend days without leaving my dorm because of how beat up and lonely I felt at the time. Zyven hit me up one day and told me he was on the way down for a visit and a concert. I was ecstatic because not only is Zyven one of my favorite people, but I knew he would help me forget all about the drama going on in my life at the time. Not only did this man pull through with a squad, but he did a care package run for me as well. Inside of that care package was this giant can called a JOOSE. For those who don’t know what that is, it’s basically a Four Loko knock off. I was brand new to drinking so I obviously have never heard of this gas station monstrosity before. One can later and I was opened to a brand new world of Four Loko’s. Also, we never did make it to the concert… The actual song was made during a 30 songs in 30 days challenge. I was just trying to make fun, upbeat music that really showcased who I am. I was looking for a vocal to use on this producer tool called Splice which is basically a sample pack treasure chest. The vocal that started the song was this horrible Getter vocal of someone in a whiney voice saying “I’m so wasted.” Six hours and a lot of cringe vocals later, LOKO was born.
You’ve performed all over the Carolinas and managed to amass a nice group of supporters everywhere you go, who are some of your top fans from Greensboro, Charlotte, Raleigh, Greenville and Charleston that deserve a little love?
Oh, man… there’s too many to name without offending someone, honestly. I do have to show some love to some people though since you’re asking. HUGE love to all of my GF*W Family. I literally would not be anything without them. Shout out to Jordon, better known as Warez. He is the one who inspired me to even attempt being a DJ/producer. He’s also the one who lit a fire under my ass to really get to work. Of course I need to mention two of my best friends in the entire world, Alan and Alex. Both of these guys took me under their wing to mentor me and help me navigate the scene. It will chew you up and spit you out but these guys protected me and helped make it fun no matter what. Last but not least, the man, the myth, the legend, the mother forkin’ RIDDIM PROFESSOR!!! Zyven has supported me and pushed me harder than anyone else and continues to bless me with opportunities to share my craft and for that I will always be extremely grateful.
I love you so much bro. Why do you love Kompany so much?
He literally has shaped the way Dubstep is made today and does not get enough credit for it. He was the first guy to really master the riddim/brostep style which would later turn into him pushing the Briddim sound. This is the type of music I connect to the most and the guy is just a wizard in the studio. Nothing but respect and admiration for him. Plus he also taught Wooli how to make music so you know…
Tell us two of your favorite memories from shows that you’ve performed this year. We’re genuinely curious!
Number one is so easy because it was the most amazing feeling ever. I was playing the Heimanu Remix of UCLA at World right before Riot Ten came on. The lights go pitch black and the man comes up. We chat for a second because I was explaining the CDJ set up and then we just got to vibe to the song for a bit. That moment still gives me goosebumps. The second one is my b2b with Kold Drip and DJ YOU that I had after my hour set for SPENT! Was it a masterpiece? Not in the slightest. BUT it was the absolute most fun I’ve had djing. We were all playing genres we don’t normally play and I just got to talk on the mic while drunk. It was awesome Honorable mention: playing the GF*W X Wanted Events show feat. Tynan. The whole show was lit and we played inside a Darth Vader helmet. What more could you ask for?
What does it mean to be a part of the Jordan Castle movement?
The whole thing is based around energy, friends and family, positivity and of course going LOKO!!! Seriously, it’s just about having the best time possible and I think that’s what really helps me with my live shows and with connecting with fans. People know that for the next hour they can forget all of their problems and just throw down with me! I’m honestly just trying to create the safe space for people that I used to look for at shows.
That’s a very wholesome answer brother. What kind of fun plans do you have for the fall and winter my friend?
Most of it is a secret!!! But be prepared for new music for sure. Trying my best to pump out some heaters and get on more labels.
Lastly, we heard you’re hosting a mega back to back at So We Heard You Like Dubstep Volume 5, can you tell us more about this? Who’s coming out to play with you?
Yes! And I’m so excited for this because I don’t know if this has ever happened before at SERJ. I’ve invited out some of my favorite producers, DJ’s, friends and guys who are on the come up. So far I will be joined by Azira, Bromosapien, Majesti, SFEHVN, A-Pod as well as some secret guests.
This sounds like it’s going to be one for the books – See you in the pit! Thank you Jordan! You can Purchase Tickets to So We Heard You Like Dubstep Volume 5 Here!
